mini quilted zipper pouch

I have a super fun little project to show you today. Hope you'll like it as much as I do.

Yes, it's a teeny tiny quilted zipper pouch. Pretty adorable, isn't it? Its finished size is 2.75" wide x 2.5" tall x 2" deep, eeek!!!

Of course I had to whip up a few of these little cuties right away. And, to my children's dismay, I squeeled more and more with every finish :).

I used 4" metal zippers and absolutely adore how much personality they add to these cuties. (I buy all my zippers from Zipit shop on etsy, they offer an amazing selection of zippers and super fast shipping)

I hope you'll come back next week. I'll have a free tutorial for you on how to make these mini quilted pouches.

Wishing you all a creative and relaxed weekend. Svetlana

sewing for my boy

Child #3 will soon be off to a week long camp. This is the first time he'll stay away from home for so long and we're all super excited for him. What a fun, new adventure this will be.

All the camp preparation, of course, gave me a good excuse to do a bit of boy sewing. I must admit, I find sewing for boys in general a bit tricky, so I was very happy to see my son loved all the makes (he always makes sure nothing looks too girly).

I sewed up a wallet to keep his cash in. It was a bit fiddly to make and the seam ripper and I became quite good friends (mostly because I was making things up as I went). I do love how it turned out, though so I guess it was worth all the headache :).

I made him a drawstring bag, of course. Aren't these little monsters the cutest?

And, I used this fantastic tutorial to make him a new Pokemon pillow case (and one for his Pokemon loving sister, as well).

I'm curious, what do you like to sew for boys (big or little) in your life?

Wishing you all a creative day. Svetlana

(one more) drawstring bag

You guys, I made yet another drawstring bag.

And this one is my absolute favorite ever. EVER!!!

I've been eyeing this nun fabric on Spoonflower for way too long so as soon as it arrived in my mailbox I found myself snipping and stitching like a mad woman until I had this lovely new knitting bag all finished.

I even added a slip pocket as well as a zipper pocket to my bag's interior. They do make it super functional and it's nice not to have the pattern as well as notions organized and easy to find.

Oh, and the project you see in the photos above is my new Mara Shawl in progress. I'll talk about it more once it's finished.

I hope to have a pattern for this project bag (it's the biggest one of the four bags I'll be including with the pattern) ready in a week or two. I hope you'll like making these bags as much as I do.

Wishing you all a beautiful day (our heat index is predicted to reach 115 F, yuck). I think I'll just stay inside and make a few more drawstring bags :).

knitting

Lately I've been in a bit of a knitting mood. I prefer simple, repetitive projects so I mostly find myself making socks and washcloths :). Nothing glamorous here, is it? But so very relaxing for me and that's what counts.

I use this free pattern to make my washcloths. I love how quick and easy to make they are. And useful, they are perfect for wiping down kitchen counters.

Plus, they are a great project to use up little bits of yarn left over from my making countless pairs of socks.

You know what's coming up next, right? Of course I had to make myself a new knitting bag :). I went back and forth for quite some time deciding on a design and in the end a simple quilted drawstring bag won.

I love this bag. I love how sturdy and roomy it is, and mostly I love not having to look for my supplies all over the house every time I want to work on a project.

Wishing you all a super creative week. Svetlana

laura purse {new pdf pattern}

Hello everyone!

I'm super excited to introduce my newest Laura Purse pattern to you today. It's a wonderfully roomy everyday purse (finished size is 12" wide x 12.5" tall x 5" deep) with one zipper pocket and one slip pocket on the inside, and a super fun drawstring closure.

I've been using my Laura purse for weeks now and I absolutely love that it fits all my necessities and there's still room for a few extras.

Materials needed to make this purse:
fabric A (main exterior fabric) – ½ yard
fabric B (contrasting exterior fabric) – ½ yard
fabric C (lining) – ½ yard
interlining fabric (canvas, denim, or some other heavier weight fabric) to make your bag sturdier – ½ yard
SF 101 interfacing (or other medium weight fusible interfacing of choice) – 2 ½ yards
one 8” long metal or nylon zipper
twelve 3/8” grommets or 7/16” extra wide eyelets
two 1 ¼” D-rings
two 1 ¼” swivel lobster hooks

Once again, I had a few super talented ladies test the pattern for me and I'm beyond excited to show off their beautiful makes.

Ready? Here we go.

Ellyn made this gorgeously bright purse for her daughter. Lucky girl.

And then she went ahead and made another Laura purse using Michael Miller's fabric called "wove it or weave it" for herself. Just beautiful.

I'm totally smitten with Vicki's stunning purse. This fabric combination is absolutely divine and I love that Vicki added an exterior zipper pocket to her purse.

Oh, and look at this super chic purse Annette made. Lovely, isn't it? Those giant dots are fabulous.

Well done, ladies. Thank you for making such gorgeous purses and for your feedback.

I hope you like this pattern as much as I do, friends.

handmade sale {july 2016}

I haven't been sewing much lately as I spend most of my creative time on screen printing, so I was quite surprised to notice my closet devoted to finished projects (yes, I do have a closet just for this purpose :)) was, once again, bursting at the seams.

I decided it's time to let things find new homes and listed them for sale. I opened a new etsy shop named Sotak Shop as I thought keeping finished projects in the same shop as my patterns and screen printed fabric would make for a pretty confusing experience for everyone. Hope this makes sense.

Here's just a sampling of what's up for grabs at the shop.

There are lots and lots of pouches, bags, pillows, trivets, and even some quilts, all PRICED TO SELL.

Happy shopping. Svetlana

epp plus pillow

My epp plus pillow is finally finished, yay!!!

I started working on these blocks ages ago (it's been more than a year since I first shared my progress, crazy!!!). You know how it is though, it takes a long time to finish a project you're not working on :). And this pillow top was set aside for months at one point. I even thought of getting rid of it so I wouldn't feel guilty every time I saw these half finished blocks.

I'm so glad I decided to tie this pillow top instead of quilting it. I think it adds just the right amount of whimsy and playfulness.

I added a hidden zipper closure to pillow backing (free tutorial here), and a striped binding, of course.

The pillow finished at 18" square, my favorite size. Can't wait to add it to our daily pillow rotation :).

Wishing you all a super lovely week. Svetlana
