new screen printed fabric panels in shop

Hello lovelies,

I just wanted to pop in real quick to let you know I've added lots of screen printed panels to my etsy shop.

Hope you'll find something you like and I can't wait to see what you create :)

simple stripes (finished quilt)

Oh, I just realized I completely forgot to share my Simple Stripes quilt which was featured in issue 49 of Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine. Better late than never though, right?

This quilt is based on a simple line drawing from my sketchbook and I loved the process of turning the sketch into an actual quilt.

I so love the contrast of black and white front and super bright Marimekko backing.

As you can probably tell, there was a crazy amount of precise cutting and sewing involved in this quilt. Once the cutting was done, the quilt itself came together pretty quickly and it was a great way to practice my 1/4" seam allowance :).

The quilt finished at 52" x 68" and I'm glad to say my oldest daughter claimed it as soon as it arrived back home from the photoshoot.

And, as I mentioned before, the quilt was featured in issue 49 of Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine.

Thanks for reading friends. Svetlana

range backpack

You guys, I made a backpack!!!  And I absolutely, positively love it  :).

I've wanted to either buy or sew a waxed canvas backpack for ages now but never seemed to come across just the right one. And then Anna (noodlehead) published her newest pattern for Range Backpack and I knew I had to drop everything and start making it right away.

I used waxed canvas (purchased here) for the exterior and Essex linen for the lining. I think this fabric combo gives the finished backpack just the right firmness without being too stiff.

And, since I'm sort of obsessed with rivets I added them to my straps and front closure.

I love how this backpack turned out and while it wasn't the easiest bag to sew, it was definitely worth all the extra effort. I already wore it to our trip to Chicago and loved using it.

So, if you're ever in a mood to sew up a super fabulous backpack for yourself, I highly recommend you give this pattern a try. You won't be disappointed.

Off I go, one more day of summer break left and then it's back to school for all three of my kids. I'm actually kind of excited to get back to a regular schedule and routine :)

Wishing you all a lovely and productive day. Svetlana

devon pouch in hills and valleys

Only one more week and my kids are going back to school.

I was planning on going into a full blown sew like a maniac and make all the pouches, and lunchboxes, and drawstring bags the kids might possibly need (and more) but was stopped in my tracks when all three of them put their requests in - my son wanted a pouch for his pens and my daughters needed a new lunchbox each.

That's it !!!

Thank goodness they reminded me there was absolutely no need to put all that pressure on myself and take things easy.

And that's what I'm doing now :)

So far I only made this one Devon pouch for my son. He chose the fabric, I suggested the pattern, and we're both happy with the way it turned out. It fits all his pens and pencils perfectly and that's pretty much all he cares about.

Wishing you all a happy and productive day! Svetlana

riverside tote

I think it's pretty obvious by now I really, really love making bags. So, when a fabulously talented Amy (nana company) published a free tutorial for her Riverside Tote I knew I had to make one right away.

This tote is ginormous (I was able to easily fit four beach towels in) and I absolutely love that.

I used Arroyo linen and AGF denim in wicked sky for the main body of the bag. And, I'm totally smitten with the addition of leather tabs and rivets. They make for an extra special way to finish off the cotton webbing handles, don't you think?

I tried making large totes in the past and they always turned out very clunky and awkward looking :(. I think Amy got the proportions and dimensions just right on this one and I'm super excited to have a large tote I actually love.

Wishing you all a happy and creative day. Svetlana
