navy + parchment baby quilt...

... all finished :).

I'm really glad I talked myself into not using my usual white or gray solid fabric. Instead I went with Kona Parchment and I absolutely love how it lets all the navy prints shine.

I used polyester batting I had on hand and I'm still deciding on whether it was a good choice or not. I quite like the poofy, super soft texture it gave the finished quilt, but all that loft proved to be quite tricky when it came to quilting. I think I'll save the rest of my poly batting for tied quilts and little poofy comforters :).

I worried a bit about stripe overload when I decided to go with striped backing as well as binding, but I think it kind of works here. Wouldn't you agree?

Svetlana

  6. Your quilt is beautiful and your creativity inspirational. I have a 10-year old grandson who would welcome a larger version in a similar color scheme and design. Thank you!

  10. This is so lovely - good for a baby but also sophisticated enough for a blue loving adult. I've been thinking of doing a red and black simple house quilt and this parchment is so much more lovely than white or even cream. How big is this, it looks perfect. Prefer larger baby quilts for long use!

  12. Who would have thought parchment and navy would be such a great compliment to each other. I'm sure this isn't the first time someone has used this color combo but I haven't seen it. It's gorgeous!

  17. It's a great quilt. I also have been making quilts lately with gray and thinking about using a more creamy or tan background. You are showing me that it could be great. My son wants a quilt with navy and maroon and I'm thinking of avoiding gray this time. My latest quilt also has a striped border and I think they are perfect to frame the final product. I think your striped border also gives the quilt a little whimsical fun that a baby quilt should have. Keep it up!

  18. I love your quilt. The colors combination and the prints give balance to the quilt and make it unique.
I have the same problem with the poly batting. At first I blamed my walking foot, but after I bought a new one I understood that it was not only it to blame. I piece and quilt on a domestic sewing machine. Probably its one of those needle-thread-batting combination that my sewing machine don't like.
I like your stripped border too.
