needle turn applique {in progress}

I'm so enjoying this slow, relaxing, easy to pick up and put down when needed, no sewing machine necessary, needle turn applique project.

I'm using a pattern from this book by Denyse Schmidt. I'm still deciding whether to make just one block and turn it into a pillow cover or a mini, or whether to make four blocks to make a bigger sized quilt.

In any case, it must be something that does not need much washing as I don't trust the stitches that hold the flowers in place :( That needle turn applique can be quite tricky, I must say, especially when tight curves are involved.

Thanks for stopping by. Svetlana

  1. I'm about to start a new applique project. I use freezer paper though. I've never tried needle turn. I love the fabrics you've chosen for this!

  4. Hello! I'm working on an applique project - Aunt Millie's Garden but with a modern twist. What is your method for needle turn applique? Do you use templates or freezer paper?

    Thanks for the inspiration

  8. i LOVE needleturn applique and probably that's all I do except for a small bit of piecing. I also design needleturn quilts and teach it. For me, its relaxing and i can prep a piece and then carry it around with me wherever i go. check out my website: www.focusonquilts.com.au

  11. This is absolutely beautiful! I'm in Hadleys' class at FQR with Jen Kingwell. I'll give it a go, but envision finishing my green tea and sweet beans quilt with raw edge applique. I'm well impressed with your patients/skill!
