Unfortunately I'm incredibly useless when it comes to naming my quilts so this one is simply called Dots :) If you, however, have a good name for this quilt please let me know, I would love your input.
This quilt is all about Kona Snow, a variety of low volume fabrics for the sashing, and a few pretty scraps.
I fused my circles (using Heat n Bond) to the background and did two rows of stitching all the way around the circles. Easy peasy :)
I then did an uneven, sort of wonky cross hatch quilting all over which gave the quilt a beautiful texture and feel.
Finished size of this quilt is 51" x 57".
I'm thinking a similar quilt showcasing my few very precious Munki Munki scraps would definitely be a great idea. If only there were more than 24 hours in a day :)
Hope you all have a fantastic weekend. Svetlana
So pretty. Yes more than 24 hours in a day and more than seven days in a week....
ReplyDeleteMaybe call it connect the dots? I wish I had more sewing hours in the day too!
ReplyDeleteDotty for Dots! A perfect wee quilt! Jxo
ReplyDeleteI think Dots sums it up quite nicely! Who says every quilt needs a clever name? :)
ReplyDeleteSvetlana, this is perfect! I love the way you mixed all the other low volume prints into the background around the dots!
ReplyDeleteIt is just perfect!
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember a candy named dots ? A sheet of tiny sugar dots that looked very much your quilt.
ReplyDeleteLiked them, love your quilt.
Exactly what I was thinking when I saw it! You could call it Sugar Dots!
DeleteLove it! Great idea with the Munki Munki scraps. I have a few small pieces and a quilt like this would work well!
ReplyDeleteI love simple quilts like this that still have a BIG design impact. Fabulous job!
ReplyDeleteA beauty! I really like how the low volumes make the dots stand out. Very clever!
ReplyDeleteThose subtle prints in the background just draw me in. I keep looking and looking. Gorgeous
ReplyDeleteI have just made this one of my favorite quilts. It's so simple but so beautiful. Well done Svetlana
ReplyDeletethis is great! I think this might give me inspiration for my babies quilt!
ReplyDeletedyts or dotty sounds great to me, very nice too
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful, and such a great way to showcase a few prints.
ReplyDeletePerfect name - it is what it says it is! Beautiful quilt too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool quilt! I love the circles and the cross hatch quilting.
ReplyDeleteI have a stash of polka dot fabric that I hope to eventually get into a quilt. I am absolutely useless when it comes to naming quilts. However, when I saw the name, I hope I'll name mine "Dorothy." My mom and dad were each only children (as are my two sisters-in-law) so our family is rather small. Having, no first cousins, it was a treat when my dad's cousin from NC came and brought his wife. She was a delightful person and went by the name "Dot." She had a granddaughter Dottie. She was probably the favorite non-immediate family member (including grandparents) that I ever knew. Even though she went by Dot, I think maybe Dorothy or even Dot would be a fitting name for my quilt. However, I don't want to be a copycat. I don't have any plans for a quilt design. Yours is adorable. I want to use as many of the polka dot (and fabrics with polka dots - not just polka dot fabric) in the quilt as possible. I even hope to find white on white polka dots for my background. Obviously, I haven't been looking much. Minky would be wonderful used in the same way. I think it was Julie Cefalu (The Crafty Quilter) who did a tutorial very similar if I remember for Shannon Fabrics who makes a minky type fabric. If you can't find it and are interested, drop me a note and I will try to find it for you. I'm away from home visiting my daughter and family. I'll be home Monday night late and then without two youngsters wanting Grandma's attention, I should have some time to look for it. I love your quilting and I keep thinking with the minky how children (ADHD and autistic for example) would love the feel. Many of those children are very sensitive to touch. Of course, I think all children (and big children) love the cuddliness of minky. Thanks for sharing Dot.
ReplyDeleteHow about calling it Dot-To-Dot, like the children's drawing game?
ReplyDeleteLovely, it reminds me of a phone keypad.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt!! The very low volume sashing is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt! Love everything about it - the colors, the fabric and especially the quilting. Dots sounds like an excellent name for it.
ReplyDeleteSvetlana, I love this quilt but especially love the low volume sashing. That was a very creative idea! Thank you for sharing it with us.

ReplyDeleteYou're doing fine as far as naming your quilts...I usually don't bother!
ReplyDeleteReally cute finish.
I love how you used the low volume prints to frame the circles, it is a wonderful detail. I am not great at naming quilts either; I can see why people find it important, but it's just not important to me.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely perfect!! Love the circles and low volume prints. A gorgeous quilt with a simple and fitting name :)
ReplyDeleteLove the how the LV frames the dots! Really highlights them and draws you in. I think "Dots" is a perfect name!
ReplyDeleteWow this quilt is really fantastic, Svetlana! It looks like it could be in the pages of Quilt Artistry.
ReplyDeleteGreat Mod quilt finish.. How about Mod Finish or Mod Top.. its cooling looking.. and has a bit of a Zakka style but very High style look too.
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely. I have yet to do a quilt with raw edge applique - do they wear well? Seeing Simplsew's comment about, how about naming it Mod Dots?
