Focus, focus!!! that's what I'm trying to tell myself as lately I jump from one project to another and before that gets finished I start yet another new, totally unrelated project. Want to see?
I've been slowly making progress on HSTs for my value zig zag quilt. It's going quite well, but since I'm using all scraps for this quilt I constantly had to deal with giant piles of messy scraps before any blocks could be made.
So I decided to follow Lori's fantastic instructions and bring some much needed order to ALL my scraps as I go. It feels so very incredibly good to have them cut into ready-to-use sizes. But, all that cutting and organizing means a very slow progress on HSTs :(
I'm also working on my Woodland Sampler to keep myself from going "scrap crazy". I'm not that great at cross stitch and I make a lot of mistakes, but I love seeing these adorable woodland creatures emerging with every stitch. And I only have two more months, plus a bonus square to go before I'm all finished, yay!!!
I even persuaded my 8 year old son to join me and work on his own Grumpy Cat cross stitch (pattern bought here). I think he's doing an amazing job considering he's never done cross stitch before.
These projects, however, might be put on hold because I came across this totally amazing quilt by Kathy Doughty. It's from her newest book Making Quilts and I'm so in love with this grass green + scraps combination. I simply have to make a few of the blocks asap or the world as we know it will certainly end :)
See, I really need to focus or nothing will get finished at this rate. What are you working on?
Thanks for stopping by. Svetlana
I'm not sure "focus" is in my vocabulary. More likely, "Oh, look, something shiny" as I drop what I'm doing and head off to a new project. I'm completely envious of your scrap organization! That scrappy quilt looks fabulous. Anxious to see your version.
ReplyDeleteWow, such pretty scraps! Must feel good to have them organized so nicely. Mine are a disaster!
ReplyDeleteI saw Lori's advice too and thought of trying that! What do you think? Is it worth the time?
ReplyDeleteYour scraps are so neatly organized. I like the idea of having them ready to use.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how fast the scraps pile up! Your cross stitch looks lovely
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate with feeling scattered. However, it is kind of nice when you start to feel more focus after being scattered and you have lots of projects that are mostly finished and it is really satisfying to just finish a whole bunch up. I haven't seen that quilting book and WOW I may have to add it to my wish list. I love that quilt. I can't wait to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteDr Jude diagnoses an extreme case of Start-itis! But they are all so lovely! And go your son! Jxo
ReplyDeleteYour scraps look so pretty sitting in their little basket. Love the look of the Kathy Doughty quilt, no wonder you had to get stitching straight away :)
ReplyDeleteThat is the nicest, most organized pile of scraps I've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteJudith (two above me) is so funny!
There are just too many great ideas and too many wonderful fabrics! At least you are very organized!

Oh, your zig zag quilt is going to be a beauty! You have so many great scraps in those hsts!
ReplyDeleteI'd be crushing on that green quilt too if I had her book:) Have you seen the flower quilt on Stitched in Color? I wonder if green is on everyone's mind now that winter is hopefully coming to a close.
Your son is doing such a good job on his cross stitch! At first I thought it was Lola your cat! Grumpy Cat is so funny! Have you ever seen Sad Cat Diaries on YouTube? My husband and I think it is hilarious.
I don't even know if I could survive organizing my scraps like yours - but I aspire to that! ;-) Love the 'new' quilt you are thinking about!
ReplyDeleteHad to visit Lori's post. Your scraps look delicious!
ReplyDeleteSurprise - Kathy has published another book since that one came out! (& I want to make that grass green & scraps quilt.)
ReplyDeleteOh my word you make me laugh, a kindred spirit! I have just returned to my quilting after several years and there are so many new things to see and do! Like you I have way to many projects started, must finish something, but now I must go organize my scraps first, amazing!!!!!!
