I finally basted my Marcelle Medallion quilt.
I had no idea how to quilt it (all those pointy triangles were making it hard to decide), I simply hoped that once I had my quilt sandwich all nicely basted, the idea would come. And it did, phew!
I decided to machine stitch in the ditch around each border to secure all the layers together and now I'm slowly hand quilting the rest. Nothing fancy, mostly just outlining the shapes.
Unlike previous times when I used either perle cotton or embroidery thread for hand quilting, I'm using regular quilting thread this time. It's thin but sturdy and the stitches are almost disappearing into the quilt. Just what this quilt needs since it's so very busy with all the colors and patterns competing for attention.
A big thanks to Chase who wrote a very nice guide to hand quilting.
Wishing you all a very lovely weekend. Svetlana
I love how bright and happy this is. Enjoy your hand quilting. It's going to look great when you are done.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt- gorgeous!! I have a medallion (still a wip) that I am going to hand quilt with regular quilting cotton! I love the subtle texture it gives!
ReplyDeleteCan I tell you again how much I love your medallion? It looks amazing. Have fun hand quilting! It must be enjoyable to sit with it in your lap and look at it.
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty. I love your color choices. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNo matter what you do, it will be spectacular!

ReplyDeleteLove the oranges in here - makes the quilt sparkle ! Enjoy taking the time to hand quilt!
ReplyDeleteVery very nice Svetalana. I'm glad that you do hand quilting from time to time because it continues to remind me that it's something I want to try sometime soon!
ReplyDeleteOh this is so gorgeous. I am thinking about hand quilting the maple leaf rag quilt that I am working on. Do you use spray baste? I normally pin baste, but I am thinking that wouldn't be the best for hand quilting.
ReplyDeleteI'm almost finished...it has been hard to decide how to quilt it. I can't wait to see yours!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. I love how the simple design is showcases
ReplyDeleteOh, lovely idea!
ReplyDeleteLove the way you are hand quilting your lovely quilt. The fabric colours and designs are so pretty and fresh looking.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is so lovely. I agree that it was screaming to be hand quilted. Good idea to stitch in the ditch by machine first. I recently did the same thing. Works like a charm. Enjoy he hand quilting!
ReplyDeleteHow pretty it turned out. I started making me one and really could use some pointers on how to seam the y-seams in the center block. Mine look horrible!
ReplyDeleteI'll be curious to see your progress on this lovley quilt! and curious to know how you like the quilting thread as opposed to perle or embroidery thread. I'm getting ready to start and not sure which thread I want to use! Beautiful work as always. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteI just made the templates for the center of the medallion. Your version is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteLooking great so far :o)
ReplyDeleteLOVE!! I think yours is the favorite of the Marcelle Medallions that I've seen. The hand quilting is going to make it all the more special.
ReplyDeleteJust when you thought it couldn't get prettier, hand quilting just pushes it over the edge. Great idea.
ReplyDeleteI think I wouldn't have known either how to quilt it. On my pillow I just outlined the star.
ReplyDeleteLove this quilt and how the quilting is highlighting areas without taking over.

ReplyDeleteI found the simple way to quilt is 1/4" away from the sewing seam. It gets a little hard on the fingers, but it surely create simple and elegant look. I can't wait to see your entire quilt is finish. It is going to be so gorgeous!
