My Scrappy Celebration quilt is all finished, yay!!!! And I could not have been happier with how it turned out.
It's wonderfully scrappy, and big, and soft, and cozy, simply perfect.
It measures 70" x 70" and I worried a little when basting time came. You see, I decided to use minky fabric for the backing and was not sure how it would all work together. Plus, I had to piece the backing and minky is just so incredibly messy to work with.
I'm really happy to say that it all worked out. Since I spray baste my quilts, I was expecting to have major issues with minky not sticking to the batting. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that as long as I sprayed both the minky as well as the batting, they stayed together without any problems. Phew!!!! what a relief.
All in all, this was one fun and easy quilt to put together. So, if your scrap baskets are overflowing, just like mine still are, give it a try. Here's a link to Katy's tutorial I followed.
Hope you all have a very lovely day. Svetlana
I went with minky for the backing because I really wanted my kids to like and use this quilt. It surely did not disappoint. The quilt has very quickly become the favorite with all three of them and there were already quite a few fights over who will get to use it.
Hope you all have a very lovely day. Svetlana
What fun pics! And a beautiful scrappy quilt! Well done S! Jxo
ReplyDeleteLoved how it came out. You are one brave woman with that Minky!
ReplyDeleteYour kids adore the quilt- just what we want! It's really nice. I had trouble with spray baste not sticking yesterday, grrr. I think it was a combination of wool wadding and the backing being a vintage sheet which was quite slippery and probably a poly cotton blend. At least the project was just a table runner for me,not a gift or large quilt.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt looks great! I've never used minky but it's good to know about the spray basting. Way to go finishing it so fast!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your experience with spray basting minky. I am definitely considering using this type of backing in the future now!! Beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteTo me the best part of making quilts is the use of them. love the picture of it in use.

ReplyDeleteI love it!! I like this pattern a lot better than the one circulating now.
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to try a minky back for awhile now. Would you mind answering a few more questions?
ReplyDeleteIs there a difference in quality between quilt shop minky and the stuff they sell at big box fabric stores?
Do you pre wash your stash fabrics? If not, did you pre wash your top? I'm concerned about the top And batting shrinking, but the quilt remaining the same
size.
Thanks!
It is gorgeous, the binding is perfect for it!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely and beautiful!I imagine is super cozy with the minky.
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely! Do pin and use the spray or just the spray? I have never just used the spray for basting, am I adding work?

ReplyDeleteOh, what a beauty!
ReplyDeleteYou make the sweetest quilts! YUM! janita
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I'd think you don't need batting if using Minky as a backing, since Minky is so thick.
