re-purposing

Some of you might remember this mini quilt inspired by the work of Yoshiko Jinzenji.

I made it a few months ago and as much as I like the way it turned out, I don't seem to have any use for mini quilts. There are piles of pillows and quilts all over our house and putting more quilts on the walls would be a total overkill.

So, this poor mini spent the last couple of month sitting in my closet keeping a company to a few more projects that I made, liked, and yet didn't have any use for.

I finally fixed my dilemma this weekend. I cut off some parts of the mini to make it square and turned it into a pillow.

I love this penguin fabric and thought it would match the quilty front perfectly.

I then installed the invisible zipper, which I'm very proud to say is really quite invisible, and that was it. Easy, peasy!

Phew, I feel so much better. I dislike clutter very, very much and having projects that are not being used is driving me crazy.

How about you? Do you make things that don't get used?

  2. That looks great - good idea for the repurposing. And I love that penguin fabric. We have way too many mini's in the house - my girls use them as doll quilts but still, way too many!

  4. I make things I have no use for all the time!! Which is why I now have an etsy store. :)

Your cushion is awesome, and Wow, your zipper is truly invisible.

  5. Much like you, I'm not good with "purposeless" projects. I'm even stifled just trying to make them. I love this repurposing! Great job

  6. Your pillow is fantastic! Someone once calmed me down by telling me, "Did anyone ever ask Picasso what he was going to do with yet another painting?" :) Now I don't care about how practical it is, as long as I enjoy making it!

  7. Great way to recycle minis and show them off more! I too dislike redundant lovelies - always great to breathe new life into them! Jxo

  8. I try hard not to make things that won't get used or I don't have a purpose in mind for - which limits my sewing time and keeps my budget in check! It can be tough, though.

    Great 'fix'. :-)

  16. Now that's a great idea. I have a beautiful mini from a swap and would rather have it as a cushion cover than on the wall. It's a lovely cushion!

  20. You know, I like it even better as a pillow, proportionally. I'm the same about wasting things. I think I may have to do the craft show again next year just as an outlet, cause I also don't like listing things on Etsy ongoing.

  22. Such a great idea Svetlana! I can't enjoy my mini quilts as I don't have enough room to hang them so maybe I should make them into pillows too.

  23. Oh love the pillow, I am trying to battle the clutter, it is a work in progress! I took a mini I had and turned it into a huge zip pouch for all my pens markers ect.
