Look, I'm almost ready for Christmas. I finished my Vintage Holiday quilt top. I like how bright and breezy and fresh it feels, although it felt pretty weird to photograph a Christmas quilt top on such a hot, humid day (it's over 90 degrees right now).
As you can imagine, I'm not in a rush to finish up my Christmas quilt, so I started working on a new quilt for my son's bed.
I'm using Pow Wow pattern by Allison (Cluck Cluck Sew). I've wanted to make this quilt from the moment Allison first showed it on her blog. I really, really like it and I think it will make for a gorgeous boy quilt. But, these blocks take f o r e v e r !! I found out I don't particularly enjoy working with triangles and I really dislike trimming blocks as I go. Thankfully I'm almost half way done with my blocks so I'm not going to stop now. Wish me luck.
I also tried my hand at paper piecing. I used Ayumi's super adorable popsicles pattern. The paper piecing went pretty well, I was just sort of disappointed with my choice of fabric. I really don't know what I was thinking. I'll look at it as a practice run and hope to do a better job choosing happier, brighter fabrics next time.
What have you been working on lately? Have you started your Christmas sewing yet?

All gorgeous! Pow Wow is one I've been wanting to try!
ReplyDeleteI need to check out that Pow Wow quilt pattern - it is great! And those popsicles are so cute - great first try. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot in the works! The vintage holiday quilt looks beautiful! I love how you used Kona ash or a light gray to border everything. It gives the quilt just enough definition without taking away from the fabric in the blocks.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your Vintage Holiday quilt. It looks fantastic with the white border too.
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas top looks fab! I have a quilt to make for my mum and dad for Christmas, but I'll worry about that when I get back from my holiday at the beginning of November!
ReplyDeleteYour Vintage Holiday quilt looks amazing! I still have 4 more blocks to finish. I hope mine turns out half as nicely as yours did!
ReplyDeletei think the red binding will be perfect on your quilt! i just finished my Christmas quilt too and can't wait for it to be hot chocolate time again. :)
ReplyDeleteYour Ayumi popsicles are great! I just finished them too. And I love your Christmas quilt.

ReplyDeleteAs usual, I'm totally in love with all of your projects! Lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love the white border on your Vintage Holiday quilt! It keeps the focus on the blocks and the feel remains fresh and fun. Red binding will be perfect :)

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the way your Vintage Holiday quilt top came out! The white border makes it look so fresh and clean...lovely! Pow Wow caught my eye too when it was released, but I wondered about all those triangles... :)
ReplyDeleteLove your Christmas quilt - the grey sashing is lovely. Everything else is gorgeous too!
ReplyDeleteLove your popsicles!! The first Christmas quilt looks so lovely!! Christmas sewing has been slowly produce here, but I'd say I need more time!
ReplyDeletethe Christmas quilt top looks really wonderful. I don't think I'll make one, but maybe I can choose the blocks for a pillow.
ReplyDeleteI have bought the pattern, too, and am planning to make a quilt for me. But I think this won't happen in 2012.
I'm currently working on my Granny Squares miniquilt and on an inside out quilt.
I haven't started Christmas sewing by now, but my mother already requested something sewn, so I'd better get started in the near future.
I bought the pow-wow pattern... I'm a little clumsy I think. That may be because of a lack of sleep because of our little one born in May... or maternal amnesia ;)
DeleteI am working on the pow-wow quilt too. What I have found is if I do about 4 blocks at a time it goes much faster. I do one step four times, sew, cut, press and then do the next step for the same four blocks, etc.
ReplyDeleteI love your vintage holiday! The popsicles are so cute!
ReplyDeleteLove your vintage holiday. I am actually in the middle of too many things. Two of them are for Christmas. A Christmas wall hanging and a Christmas pillow.
ReplyDeleteI love your WIPs! I have been eyeing that Pow Wow quilt so much so that I looked up the fabric requirements again last night. It really is pretty, and your son will love it! I have 4 quilt WIPs that require handwork and just 1 for the machine--I need to get working so I can get some things done and start on a Pow Wow quilt myself. ;) Your popsicles look great!
ReplyDeleteI love everything that you've shown us. I also dislike blocks that take forever...I've got one of those going right now. I'm in the mode where I want to work on anything BUT that, and I'm normally a 'one project at a time' sort of girl.
