log cabin quilt

Log cabin, with its many variations, is probably my all time favorite quilt block. So, when the time came for me to decide what quilt I'd like my Trust Circle of do. good Stitches ladies to make, it was pretty simple. I asked for log cabin blocks using a solid fabric for the middle, and blue/ aqua all around it. My idea was inspired by a similar quilt made by Jolene (Blue Elephant Stitches) .

I loved getting all the fun blocks in the mail and once I put them all together they made for one seriously happy, scrappy, perfect for a child quilt.

I used flannel from my stash for the backing. I love the feel it gives to the whole quilt, I just hope that flannel does not look too worn out after a few washes.

I then did something I've never done before, I FMQed this quilt!!! I must admit, I was quite reluctant to try it and I was getting ready to spend some major quality time with my seam ripper. Thankfully, the whole process went pretty smoothly. The quilting is not perfect, but it's good enough, and I'm really glad I finally gave it a try.

A huge thank you goes to all the ladies of our Trust Circle for their wonderful blocks.

Thanks for stopping by. Svetlana

  4. It's wonderful! And good for you, for trying FMQ and having it turn out. I'm working my way up to practicing some more - doing some sketches first, which are easy enough, but quilting is a whole different matter I think!

  15. Flannel is perfect for a kid quilt. The softness provides comfort on the inside as well as warmth.
