Hello, happy new year to you all!

New year is such a perfect time to start a new quilt, isn't it? And that's just what I did. Only you know what? I decided to make a BROWN quilt.

Now, I know people have strong feelings about this color (I was actually very surprised by how much positive response I got to a picture of this quilt top on IG). I personally did not think of myself as a "brown liker", but now I'm realizing it really depends on the shade of brown for me ...

...as well as colors used with brown. I still can't see myself combining brown and orange in the same project and actually enjoying it, but I think this combo of different shades of brown and  white, plus a very simple layout works.

My quilt top is all finished and now it's on to making a quilt back - one of my new year's resolutions is to use up more of my stash to make quilt backs instead of taking an easy way out and buying sheets :).

Hope your new year is off to a good start too. Svetlana

  1. I love it! I agree, brown and orange would remind me too much of a fast food outlet. I've seen some striking quilts with brown, grey, cream and light blue. I has to be the warmer of brown however. Still very rich brown but not a muddy brown...if that makes sense. Anyway no surprise on the Instagram praise. It is a beautiful quilt.

  2. I love it, I do not consider myself a brown person either but then I was forced to use a color palette that had brown in it, I made up that quilt and loved it - one of my favorites. I thought I would share...http://factotumofarts.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/succulent_side_view.jpg. I am, surprisingly, doing another one at the moment with browns as the main color - who knew :-)

  5. Such a fun top. I used to not like brown, but when I think of it as chocolate I appreciate it more. Isn't chocolate a nicer word than brown?

  11. I love the design and colour it's beautiful and look forward to seeing you post it all quilted. Did you make up the measurements for the block yourself or is it form a pattern? I'd love to try it.

  13. Nicely done. I may be incorporating brown into a quilt for my daughter so she has something to go with the boyfriends brown couch. Otherwise it's not a color I have much of or use often.

  15. I like this quilt with the white and brown. The white makes it fresh feeling, but then again I love the colors of the seventies, orange green and brown, together:)

  16. The rate rise moved it up to 58 against the dollar, ray ban wayfarers sale australia although it has since slipped back to 62. Russia only last week raised rates by 1%, a move that cheap ray ban sunglasses australia had little impact. On Monday the rouble fell to a new low, prompted by fears the US was considering a fresh set of sanctions against the ray ban sunglasses australia sale country for its support for separatists in Ukraine.

  18. I love the brown. It's a running joke in my house that my husband's favorite color is chocolate brown because he has (no lie) at least 7 identical chocolate brown shirts and he gets sad when they are all dirty and he has to wear something else. So I made sure when I started picking colors for a quilt for our bed to include some and it's really grown on me!

  20. I actually really don't care for too much brown; however it is something that can help with the manly parts of making a quilt... and I love this with different shades of brown with the white. It's very crisp, clean and very manly. This would be the perfect quilt to make for a guy.
