winter wonderland sewing

Hello, happy Monday to you all!

I thought we would all be back to our regular routine of school and work as this was supposed to be my kids first day of school this year, but our winter weather decided otherwise.

See, this is our backyard. Beautiful, that's for sure but also very, very cold (wind chill dropped all the way down to -40 degrees!!! today).

Schools are closed and our houses look like queen Elsa from newest Disney movie Frozen came and did some decorating :) Not bad, I say, but it would be quite nice to go out and enjoy all this beauty without freezing in seconds.

So, I decided happy bright fabrics were just the cure for winter blues. Hopefully by the time I finish stitching these epp lozenges together I will actually know what to use them for. I thought of making a pillow at first, but now I'm thinking a tote bag might be a way to go???

I've also made quite a progress on my Tone it Down quilt. I have 12 blocks finished so far but I'm simply not sure how I feel about it right now. I might be getting a little tired of low volume :( Or maybe I just made it too busy? Can low volume be too busy? See? Maybe I just need to get out to clear my head. Let's hope for nicer weather soon :)

Hope you're all staying warm and safe. Svetlana

  5. Incredible!! It felt a bit nippy here today but not even close to that kind of cold! It does look beautiful. The lozenges look amazing and would be perfect as a tote! I'm loving the tone it down, it looks pixelated! I've been staring at it and it does seem busy but maybe that's the fuzz from staring at it too long!!

  6. Gorgeous pics, of everything. We had almost spring-like weather here, 50 degrees, in New England. Supposed to plunge down to the teens tonight. Over the weekend it was negative 5! Drastic changes make for sick people! Keep sharing some beauty of quilty things and icy things, please :-)

  8. Ooh, a tote bag could be fun! I really love those lozenges :) your photos are so beautiful, but I can't even imagine the cold! Coldest place I've ever lived is western Washington and that was downright mild compared to your winter wonderland. And now I'm in AZ where a light jacket is enough to make a run to target! Sending warm thoughts your way :)

  16. Oh, I really like your quilt. I haven't finished picking out my fabrics for mine yet, but find yours very inspiring! I urge you to keep on your path. Some of the most mind challenging projects can become favorites when they are finished :) Love the idea of a totebag with your EPP. Stay warm!!

  25. Wow, those icicles mean business! I do like the way your low volume tone it down quilt is looking. Are those all the blocks to it? I like the way it's laid out too. I don't see anything I'd change about it!

  26. Oh my goodness those icicles. Serious problems with insulation (or lack of it) in your attic and not enough air vents on the roof.

    The quilt blocks are amazing.
