My new zig zag purse

I'm so excited to show off my new purse today. Here she is.

She's all I wished for, and more. I've been making purses, totes, bags, and pouches for a while now but lately I've been on a lookout for a bag pattern that was not too big, not too small, had a zipper closure, and had just one, not two handles. Long story short, after looking at gazillion bag patterns, I did not find the one that spoke to me.

Then one day while shopping for something completely unrelated, I found a bag I really liked. Well, not the fabric, really, but it had the right shape and size, had a zipper, one handle. So I decided to BUY!!! the bag (the fact that it was on sale really helped), and replicate it. I'm more than happy with the result. Here they are, side by side.

I used Half Moon Modern Big Zig Zag by Moda for the exterior and Spots Sunshine from the same collection for the interior of the bag. I also used yellow piping around the pocket and bottom to give it a  nice definition and that extra special touch.

I did the zipper closure on top, as well as put a zipper pocket on the inside.

This was definitely not an easy purse to sew. The piping and zippers were a little challenging to install properly, and the fact that I was making the pattern up as I went made it quite "interesting", but completely satisfying. The seam ripper was very, very busy during the whole process, quite a few (4, to be precise) needles were broken, and my fingers got poked with pins a few times. But, it was all well worth it because I really, really love it.

I'm linking this up to AmandaJean's Finish It Up Friday over at Crazy Mom Quilts and to Amy's Sew and Tell.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! Svetlana
