Cheater Drunkards' Path Quilt finished

Woo Hoo!!! My Drunkards' Path quilt is all finished. I call it a Cheater Drunkards' Path because of the way I made it. If you want to read more about my raw edge applique and how I made these quilt blocks, click here.

Finished size of this quilt is 63 x 63 inches and it's just perfect for snuggling on cold winter evenings. I used Ruby flannel for the front of the quilt, warm and natural batting, and solid white flannel for the backing.

All these layers combined make for a wonderfully soft and warm quilt. I decided to go with black and white striped binding. I think it sets off the colorfulness of the quilt very nicely.

I enjoyed working with flannel and am absolutely in love with the finished quilt. I did, however, learn a few things while making this quilt and would do things differently next time. I normally go with 1/4 inch seams, I think flannel would benefit from wider seams. After I washed the quilt, I had 2 or 3 areas where my seams came undone (not a fun experience). I also think that raw edge applique might not have been the best use of flannel. It unravels a little differently than regular quilting cotton, something I did not consider in advance, and I had to hand quilt around most of my circles to keep them safely attached after washing.

All in all, love the finished quilt and since it's for us (well, mostly my oldest daughter), a few seams that had to be fixed are not a problem. As you can see, it's getting a lot of use and love already.
don't you just love those flip flop socks?

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend, Svetlana.
