strip quilt {finished}

A while back I made this simple strip quilt top. It was one of those "I have to make this quilt right now or the world as we know it will end" kind of moments. I cut, and pieced, and pressed, and obsessed and two days later I had this lovely quilt top.

I was all excited, and loved how it turned out, and I did not feel like finishing it at all!!!  Totally not the usual me - I like to finish my quilts and then move on to other projects. And so this quilt top was just "hanging around" and making me feel guilty every time I passed by it (which was many times a day).

So, the other day I could not take it any longer. Out came my trusty 505 basting spray and a pretty flat sheet I bought to use as a backing for this quilt and I got to work.

Once basted, I went with simple straight line quilting about 2.5" apart. I love how this kind of quilting does not compete with the quilt pattern itself, it just gives it that extra texture.

I had a hard time deciding on the binding. At first I wanted to go with something red but it I did not have the right shade of red in my stash and the ones I tried were totally taking all the attention away from the quilt itself. At the end I settled on using Kona (blue???) and I do love how it complements the whole quilt.

Here it is, all nice and crinkly soft after it came out of the washer and drier.

Finished size of this quilt is about 55" x 65". I wrote simple  instructions on how I make this kind of quilt here if you'd like to make one yourself.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend. Svetlana

  1. It might be simple...but it is one of the prettiest quilts I have seen in a long time. I love the colors, it's quiet, that's what makes it so appealing. The backing and the binding are beautiful. All of these quilts in the bright colors with thousands of pieces are pretty, but sometimes I just want a "quiet" pattern. Thank you for sharing this with us and have a wonderful day.

  3. Very pretty - your choice of binding and backing is perfect. The binding doesn't compete with your quilt top at all, but compliments it softly and beautifully.

  9. What a great finish. Just lovely. Do you use cotton sheets? Or do you also use blends? I have such a hard time finding cotton sheets reasonably priced and so many seem to have polyester in them.

  11. This is very pretty Svetlana. Just by reading your posts, I begin to understand and have more confidence about beginning my first quilting project. I am just about ready to start now, as I have finished my other project. Of course, my first quilting project will be the Christmas stocking - using the fabric and pattern that I won from your lovely giveaway. Thank you again : )

  13. I really like this finish. Very comfy looking. Your idea of the different size blocks in each row is great. I've got another quilt on the list.

  23. After pushing, pulling, and fighting to get my thicker quilts (polyester filling) through my sewing machine, my next quilt will be made with only a front and back like yours.
