churn dash quilt {finished}

I have not sewn a thing in the last couple of days (unless attaching two button eyes to my polar bear block counts). So, I thought it might be a good time to show you my churn dash quilt which I finished a while back.

As I mentioned before, I made this quilt as a Christmas present for my FIL. I love the contrast of these very graphic, bold churn dash blocks and the crispness of Kona snow. I think it makes for a very "man appropriate" quilt.

Aaaah, I don't think I can ever get enough Denyse Schmidt.

I used a few different prints from my stash for the backing. Not having any particular plan in mind, I just started arranging fabric pieces randomly. I like the way it looks and I finally came to a conclusion that simple pieced backings don't take that much time, yet they add an enormous dose of extra goodness to the whole quilt. No more plain sheets as quilt backings for me. Unless it's some sort of quilting emergency, of course :)

I did straight line quilting in white thread about 1/2" apart. Every time I do this kind of quilting I'm amazed at the wonderful texture and feel of the quilt once it's washed and dried. It's so crinkly and soft, love-love-love!!!

I used gray solid fabric (probably Kona gray) for the binding. It frames the whole quilt so well and adds just the right finishing touch.

Finished size of this quilt is 48 " x 60".

Thanks so much for visiting. Svetlana
